HAMPSHIRE EBYDS SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE 2018

Loddon Vale Indoor Bowls Club

Sunday 7th January

The Hampshire EBYDS School of Excellence Invitation Singles for 2018 was held at Loddon Vale Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday 7th January. The event was well supported by five Hampshire indoor clubs with junior sections, Banister Park, Loddon Vale, Chawton Park, Victory and Palmerston.

We were delighted and honoured to have both indoor and outdoor Hampshire Officers to support our young bowlers, who are always impressed and grateful for their attendance.

Loddon Vale never fail to accommodate in style with hot drinks and bacon butties on arrival for the young bowlers and their supporters, and a good choice of menu for lunch. The facilities are excellent as always. The President Mavis Guest handed over the green, and we extend our most grateful thanks to Loddon Vale Committee and Mavis for providing the facilities free of charge in support of our young bowlers.

The excellent display of bowling and green etiquette was a pleasure and a privilege to watch, a class workshop on how to smoothly deliver a bowl!

Results:

Junior Overall Winner Alice Lovett Loddon Vale

Junior Runner Up Zac Miller Loddon Vale

Senior Overall Winner Austin Coleman Banister Park

Senior Runner Up Ashley Nethercliffe Loddon Vale

These four successful bowlers automatically go through to the Southern Regional Finals to be held at Horsham Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday April 29th 2018, where they will play against the winners and runners up from Kent, Surrey and Sussex. From there the successful bowler(s) will go to the National Finals at Melton Mowbray IBC on Sunday October 21st 2018. However due to points scored Billy Starks (Victory) Reece Graham (Chawton Park) and Tom Allsop (Banister) are also going to compete at Horsham. With the possibility of one more!

This year the EIBA have changed the age grouping for the EBYDS competition back again to under 15 for Juniors and 15 – 18 for the seniors. We decided last year at Banister Park to run an Open Tournament for all young bowlers from Hampshire and surrounding counties, which was very successful. Ashley North past President of Banister has taken it on and will continue to sponsor it. It was again a very successful day!

Our grateful thanks as always go to the coaches and umpires who volunteer their expertise and time without which we could not run these events.
