The Southern Region EBYDS School of Excellence Invitation Singles for 2018 was held at Horsham Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday 29th April. The event was extremely well supported by Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and Kent counties, with Middlesex and the Isle of Wight not submitting entries.

We were both delighted and honoured to have Sussex Bowls Indoor President Barry Baillie, Sussex Bowls Women’s Indoor Vice President Sue Mitchell, President of Hampshire County Indoor Bowls Derrick Fulker, Lady President of Bowls Hampshire Julie Greenwood, Bowls Hampshire Vice Presidents Keith and Lesley Taylor to support our young bowlers. We were grateful for their attendance and the young bowlers were well impressed to have them all on the green at the presentation.

The results for the Juniors

1st Harvey Payne of Kent with 81 points

2nd Alice Lovett of Hampshire with 79 points

3rd George Hopper of Surrey 77 points

4th Reece Graham of Hampshire with 74 points

The results for the Seniors

1st Ashley Nethercliffe of Hampshire with 85 points *

2nd Harry Duffield of Kent 85 points *

3rd Austin Coleman of Hampshire 85 points *

4th Tom Allsop of Hampshire 72 points

* Ashley had +25 shots, Harry had +21 shots and Austin had + 7 shots

The top two seniors and the top two juniors will automatically go through to the National Finals at Melton Mowbray on Sunday 21st October 2018. The remaining places will be filled from the regions based upon points attained. So we will know nearer the time when all regional results are in, if we have any more from Hampshire! Their scores are good so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

It was a very successful day all round, and we were very proud!

Well done Hampshire!
